Harriet Walford
Harriet makes objects to handle or wear. Some are traditional jewellery, others are tactile objects for the fingers to play with such as a keyring, or a toy for the pocket or desk and some are for both! The work is playful and and engaging and usually contains balls or round elements. The captive balls may be rolled between finger and thumb or may tinkle as you move.
The catches and closures are important to Harriet and they are unusual. You may need to be shown how they work, and they form an ongoing dialogue between the maker and the new owner each time the jewellery is put on or taken off. If the work is given to a family member the secret of the catch may need to be passed on as well.
Harriet uses many metals such as Copper, Brass, Bronze and Gilding Metal as well as Silver, Gold and high grade stainless steel balls (designed for body contact) which can be incorporated in the work.
Harriet is happy to accept commissions and she enjoys teaching beginners the pleasures of metalwork in her workshop near Basingstoke.
